VCT: the classic office floor
VCT — vinyl composition tile — needs wax to look good. Daily dust-mopping and damp-mopping handle the surface. But the finish wears down. Once or twice a year, the floor needs a full strip and wax: old finish stripped off, tile deep-cleaned, fresh coats of finish applied.
Between strips, regular buffing keeps the shine up. Skip the strip cycle and the floor turns dull and gray. No amount of mopping brings it back.
Tile: tough tile, needy grout
Ceramic tile itself is nearly indestructible. Grout is the weak link — it absorbs grime and darkens. Daily mopping only touches the surface. Quarterly machine scrubbing pulls grime out of the grout lines.
Restroom and lobby tile show the biggest improvement from scrubbing. One session can take years off the look.
Carpet: vacuum daily, extract yearly
Daily vacuuming is the foundation. Spot treatment handles spills. Hot-water extraction once or twice a year pulls out the deep dirt. See our carpet care guide.
Concrete: modern and low-maintenance, not no-maintenance
Polished concrete needs regular cleaning, periodic buffing, and resealing to hold its shine and resist stains. Neglect it and it dulls and stains permanently.
One floor program
Most offices have two or three floor types. We build one floor program covering all of them — what each needs, and when. Then we run it on schedule. See our floor care service. Call (301) 679-9193.
